I am a Research Associate at the University of Manchester. My research activities are undertaken within the Bioanalytical Sciences Group which is led by Douglas Kell.

Previously, I was a Senior Research Associate at the School of Computing Science in the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne working on the myGrid project. I have also worked at the University of Miami School of Medicine and for AstraZeneca.

Away from work, I spent two years between 2005 and 2007 learning to play softball for the Aardvarx in the Manchester Softball League. Due to old age, I can now be found in Ackroyd Road allotments.

Research

The myGrid project was responsible for developing Taverna, a workflow system for e-Scientists working in a distributed environment. I am currently working on a project entitled, "A systems biology strategy for understanding the genome-wide control of growth rate and metabolic flux in yeast" with scientists at the Manchester Centre for Integrative Systems Biology and will be using myGrid to help with modelling and predictive studies of metabolic pathways in yeast.

I collaborate with Alexander Romanovsky and Jeff Chen at the Dependability group in the School of Computing Science in the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the reliability of bioinformatics Web Services. I also work with Antoon Goderis, a PhD student supervised by Carole Goble, on the discovery of workflows.

My current and past research projects, and collaborations have given rise to publications.
