The international study group on BioThermoKinetics -
BTK invites everyone to present her/his most recent and exciting
results concerning the Thermodynamics, Kinetics,
Regulation, or Control of Biological Systems. In particular
contributions are encouraged that promote synthesis between theoretical and
experimental approaches, or that examine the above topics quantitatively.
BTK meetings are aimed at promoting (i) understanding of the
quantitative sciences that are relevant to the field, (ii) rapid progress in
the research in the field through synergism between the work of participants,
and (iii) applications in medical and biotechnological contexts. Since the
primary aim of the meeting is to encourage discussions between the most active
scientists in the BTK field, sessions are organised so as to include a
final discussion of each sessions main topic with reference to the poster
presentations and some of the poster presenters will be asked to present a
poster flash (a 5 minutes oral presentation). Accordingly, much
attention will be given to the poster presentations. Lectures mainly serve to
present an overview of a topic and provoke discussion of unresolved issues. All
participants are requested to contribute with a poster, also presented as a
mini-paper (2 - 4 pages), the acceptance of which for inclusion in the
BTK proceedings are subject to peer review. This book will be available
to the participants during the meeting.

All participants are invited to contribute a poster, a written and peer reviewed account of which may be published in BioThermoKinetics 5. The manuscript, 2 - 4 pages (A4, 12p, single space, 3 cm margins) including references should reach the BTK organizers before April 5, in the form of a Word for Windows 7.0 (or lower) on a floppy disc plus a printed copy. If you are using MacIntosh make sure to use a PC-formatted disc.
The paper should contain in sequence:
The results and discussion section can be combined and the figures should be placed in the text.
Overhead projector and a slide projector are available.
Poster boards are 100 x 70 cm. Material for mounting will be provided.
Immediately preceding the BTK, the 10th EBEC will be held in Göteborg
10th EBEC conference secretariat Dr. Bengt Persson Dept. Engineering and Natural Sciences Växjö University S-351 95 Växjö Sweden Tel: 46 470 708736; Fax: 46 470 708756 E-mail: Bengt.Persson@itn.hv.se
Information can also be found at: http://www.bcbp.gu.se/ebec/
The main part of the meeting will be held at a conference hotel outside the town of Göteborg, but will start in Göteborg as a satellite meeting to the EBEC Conference that will last during the period June 27 to July 2. Transportation will be arranged to the conference hotel at July 2. After registration the meeting will start with a Welcome address and an Introductory lecture on that same day, followed by a get-together-party. The three following conference days will be organised in different sessions according to the tentative topics. Each session will include an overview lecture, poster presentations and a discussion. Each contribution takes the form of a printed publication of up to 4 pages and will be shortly presented during the appropriate session. All participants are strongly encouraged to take part in the discussions of each session in order to contribute to a lively and stimulating meeting. The local organisers will do their best to provide you all with a stimulating and rewarding environment. You will be most welcome to Göteborg.
Some web pages about Göteborg:
The distance between the airport (Landvetter) and Göteborg is ca. 30 km.The meeting will be held at Gullmarstrand conference hotel located in a small village, Fiskebäckskil. A special bus transfer from Göteborg to the conference hotel will be arranged on July 2 (ca. 1.5 hours travelling time). The bus will leave from Göteborg (Götaplatsen) at 16.30. Please remember to indicate on the registration form whether or not you are interested in joining this bus. For those who want to make their own travel arrangements, you can either go by car or by regular bus service.
By bus: Take bus 840 from Göteborg (Nils Ericsson Terminal) to Bokenäs. From there it is bus 845 to reach Fiskebäckskil.
By car: Take the E6 north from Göteborg towards Oslo, north of Uddevalla turn to reach road no. 161 which will continue all the way to Fiskebäckskil. An alternative, nicer way is to go via the islands Tjörn and Orust. To do this leave the E6 already at Stenungsund (follow the signs to Tjörn) and follow road no. 160 until you reach road no. 161.
Participants requiring a visa for entry to Sweden should apply in their home countries well in advance of their intended date of travel. Visa applications might be facilitated by including a copy of the registration confirmation. All participants will be sent such a confirmation once their final registration and payment have been received by the secretariat.
By registering for the BTK, participants agree that neither the Organising Committee nor the University of Göteborg assume any liability whatsoever.
The total cost for the conference will be dependent on the room preference, i.e.:
| Single room | 3.600 SKr |
| Double room | 3.100 SKr |
| Room with 3 beds (double room with one extra bed) | 2.700 SKr |
| Room with 4 beds (double room with two extra beds) | 2.500 SKr |
These prices are Reverge charge (which means that Swedish V.A.T. is not accounted for). The price includes room for three nights, breakfast (3), lunch (2), dinner (3), coffee/tea (4), boat-trip (1), bus-transfer (Göteborg-Gullmarstrand and return), conference rooms and finally the conference book. Since the number of rooms is limited, especially the single rooms, they will be assigned on first-come first-served basis. Please indicate on the Registration form whether you are willing to share a double room in case the single rooms are already booked. Please also note that after the deadline of April 5 the price will increase with 1000 SEK (strictly enforced). The number of participants will be limited to 120 persons.
